What is Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery?
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a specialty of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and defects of the mouth, jaw and facial areas. The Latin root words Ora (mouth), maxilla (jaw), and faci (face), explain the long, foreign-sounding name.
A board Certified Surgeon must complete an oral and maxillofacial training program of at least three years following dental school. The program must be approved by the American Dental Association. Following completion of the program, the doctor must pass a rigorous oral and written exam administered by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to be certified as a Diplomate.
All of our surgeons are board certified.
